A 16-year-old Florida boy was arrested late last month for killing his ex-girlfriend, whose body was found on a trail.
On March 27, a hiker found Abbriella Elliott, 16, deceased on a trail near the Cypress Lakes Preserve. Elliott’s parents told WTSP that their daughter broke up with her boyfriend six to eight months before he killed her.
Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis said a witness told police that Elliott left home in the middle of the night to meet the person who likely killed her. Elliott’s home is located not far from where her body was discovered, according to WTSP.
Nienhuis said the teen probably killed Elliott with an “edged weapon.”
“There was a lot of passion and a lot of violence involved in the particular death so we were relatively confident that it wasn’t a random act,” he said. “It was nothing short of very violent.”
The teen boy is in the process of being charged with first-degree murder, though it is unclear whether he will be prosecuted as an adult. Officials have not disclosed his identity, presumably due to his age.
