Easter Sunday is a holy day for Christians around the world. The celebration brings hope to nations through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. As this sacred day approaches, Nancy Grace and her expert panel explore the facts surrounding Jesus’ crucifixion, resurrection, and the historical evidence supporting its reality.
Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem for Passover, now known as Palm Sunday, is often called His “Triumphal Entry.” Crowds lined the streets, spread their cloaks, and waved palm branches. Shouts of “Hosanna” rang out as people recognized Him as King. However, religious leaders and Roman authorities viewed Him as a political threat, fearing He would unite the populace and spark unrest.
Authorities arrested Jesus on charges of sedition late in the evening after the Passover meal. He appeared before the Sanhedrin, accused of blasphemy and claiming to be King of the Jews. They found Him guilty and condemned Him to die by crucifixion.
Historical sources outside the Bible mention Jesus’ death and document events that coincided with His crucifixion. Jewish historian Flavius Josephus and Roman historian Tacitus both confirmed Jesus’ existence and His execution under Pontius Pilate.
