A 55-year-old New Jersey man and his 17-year-old son were arrested on Sunday after they allegedly beat to death a former family friend with a baseball bat and a flashlight.
According to the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office, the teenager, identified only by his initials — “JH” — allegedly assaulted the daugther of Louis “Gus” Serbeck on Saturday. The following day, Serbeck and his daughter went to the home of the father, Eric D. Hannah, to discuss the incident.
The teenager met Serbeck at the front door and reportedly the two engaged in a physical confrontation, with JH suffering facial injuries while the boy slammed Serbeck in the head with a metal baseball bat. Hannah was present and joined in the fight, striking Serbeck with a metal flashlight in the back of the head.
JH reportedly hit Serbeck’s daughter in the head as well.
Police and medics were called to the scene, and Serbeck was taken to a local hospital to be flown to a trauma center, but he died en route.
Hannah and his son have been charged with homicide and weapons offenses. Theteenager has also been charged with aggravated assault for the attack on the daughter.
